Personal racehorse syndication

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about owning a share in a racehorse.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people are there in a syndicate?

We offer twelfth share and quarter share syndicates, but we can be flexible - for example arranging a private syndicate for a group of six.

How long will the syndicate run for?

Syndicates usually run for two seasons, as a two-year-old and a three-year-old, though we can be flexible.

Where do the horses run?

There are 59 racecourses in England, Scotland and Wales, and we run horses wherever the trainer thinks most suitable.

Do the horses run abroad?

If a horse is good enough and the prize money warrants it, we would consider running abroad, with additional costs coming from winnings or sale proceeds.

Are the horses insured?

Insurance against mortality is covered in the first season's cost; it does not cover injury, so please be aware if insuring for a second season.

Do I have to pay to see my horse run?

No - owners receive two free owners' badges each time their horse runs, giving access to the paddock, trainer and jockey, with some restrictions at major meetings.

Who trains the horses?

All horses are currently trained by Group One winning Amy Murphy in Chantilly, France, and Lemos De Souza in Newmarket.

When can I visit the stables?

Lemos operates an open house policy and you can see your horse on the gallops during the week or on Saturdays; visits to Amy's yard can be arranged with advance planning.

Do I have to pay additional vet's bills if the horse is injured?

No - the share price covers all training fees, including gallops fees, veterinary bills, farrier's fees, transport, race entries, jockey fees and administration costs.

When do I receive my prize money?

Owners' prize money is distributed on a quarterly basis.

How do I find out about race entries, progress and news?

We keep owners informed by email, text, phone calls and a password-protected Owners Area on the website.

What happens at the end of the syndicate?

Horses are usually sold at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale at the end of October, though they may stay in training for another year if owners agree; sale proceeds are shared proportionately.

Is there a social side to Solario Racing?

Yes - we arrange free hospitality days at the stables and paid days out at the races exclusively for our owners.

What sort of return can I expect on my investment?

Racehorse ownership should be seen as a leisure activity rather than an investment; any prize money or sale proceeds should be regarded as a bonus, with no guarantee of profit.

Can I claim the VAT back even if I am not VAT registered?

Yes - VAT is reclaimable in full on shares in racehorses, and we provide a straightforward form to complete.

Can I share the cost with friends?

Yes, though only two owners' badges are given per shareholder and all communication is with the named owner.

Is there a contract for me to sign?

Yes - a straightforward agreement is signed between you and Solario Racing LLP.

I'd like to own my own horse - can Solario Racing help?

Yes, we can advise on purchasing and handle the bidding on your behalf for a commission, with an additional charge for ongoing management.
